    Depends pretty much on how you ride, I'd say. If you ride in clean conditions and stay in the saddle then shifter is probably more influential , but if you ride in muddy conditions and/or wants crisp action even when you're pushing hard then derailleur is probably more influential.

    Agreed. Especially with today's index shifting and tight cog spacing.
