I have heard how training causes a release of human growth hormone as does napping,or sleeping,my question is does anybody know how long or how hard(%hr) does one have to train to cause this release, and also how long after falling asleep does it take.

just find a doctor who will prescribe it. that way, you will only have to worry about your next injection, and the next check to pay for it.

HGH response to exercise is not totally clear cut, it depends on your level of fitness, how much muscle is being used during the exercise, the intensity and the duration of the exercise. However, either you ride long (>90min - longer the more well trained you are) at an endurance pace or a more intense activity is needed to generate a HGH response. There does seem to be a relationship between exercise intensities that elicit a significant lactate response and hormone release (again, highish intensities make it happen).
From what I remember (years ago mind you), an initial HGH hormone response occurs at ~30min into sleep. I say initial, because I believe there is a more significant response much later in sleep...as in around 7-8hrs. Note: there are a lot of benefits to napping; certainly one very overlooked yet very effective recovery tool. -

Your memory serves you well. 🙂There are other factors involved to aide the GH release process during sleep. Some are listed below.
As we age the amount of GH release decreases.
Building blocks "amino acids" present are helpful.
Excessive alcohol can hinder
Stress can hinder (also mental stress/anxiety raises cortisol levels - not good) -
Thanks for the replies,I am aware of the napping benefits but can only manage them after a more streneous workout or a very long one.
The reason I ask about the %hr was to see if on a day off could you con you body into releasing HGH by walking,at least now i can rule out that.Damn but my body is cleverer than I thought. -
