The filtering takes place on the client's end, not via the feed
(usually). Download something like Mozilla Thunderbird, get an
News.Individual.Net account, and you're set.

Your school isn't known for it's IT department, is it? Anyway- here
is the help page - http://www.uvsc.edu/helpdesk/ . Call them and ask
what is their NNTP server. Then get a news reader. You can use MSOE,
but it sucks. I prefer Agent, or 40Tude.

Thomason when there are already several threads current on this subject. It
is the likes of him/her that is ruining this group.

What I would like to know is there a newsreader that will filter out all the
idiots who are just dumber than dumb irrespective of whether or not they are
on topic or off topic. Now that would be an invention worth it's weight in
gold.

It's in my 5.5 too. Actually, there's several ways to block a sender in OE.
Tools, Message rules... Message, Block sender... Message, Create Rule...
All give pretty much the same results.

40Tude Dialog can filter messages by the "references" header field.

Keep in mind their is a leaning curve with these newsreaders. If
you're not the brightest bulb in the string, stick with Outlook
Express.
