Depends on your event.
-for endurance racing, you can use normal road pedals
-if you are looking to specialise in sprinting, you'll need double straps (and possibly track shoes, eg. Duegis)

Are you in the USA? A few places sell them, actually EBAY is a great place to get them pretty cheap. Make sure they have the track pedal, however. It should not matter for sizing, the cleat attaches to the shoe irregardless of the size.

I keep seeing all these various trask pedals. The straps are available as well as the clips. Where are cleats that work with these pedals? I have some old nail on cleats, but they don't work with today's shoes.

If you can get hold of a few pairs, go for Shimano SPD-R, Ultegra or Dura Ace.

They use a metal Cleat, but go for the zero degree movement version.

They are much better than clips n straps - just look a who uses them on the World series - and can be adapted for Straps if necessary. the metal cleats last an age - I got 2 seasons training and racing from 1 pair.

I already have nice clipless pedals. I was just wondering how people use the clip and strap pedals if there's no slotted cleats to work with the pedals. The only ones I've seen are for nailing into wooden soles. Who makes wooden sole shoes these days and where can you get them? Does anyone make slotted cleats that bolt on to today's clipless design shoes? Are there other kinds of cleats that can be used with the rail type pedals that use clip and straps?

If I am not mistaken, back when Nothstein won olympic gold, he was riding speedplay zero track pedals. No straps.

I ride speedplay zero road pedals on the road, and never had a problem with unclipping (as I did with LOOKS).

Why can't I ride my speedplay zeros on the track, for sprint events? Is there some rule where I must have straps? I have done a lot of reading about track racing, and this type of stuff is never mentioned.

Ive got the SPD-R dura ace pedals and just bought some zero degree cleats.Afew people have rated them highly on here though i havent used them yet.Still waiting to get some shoes to accept the SPD-R.
Check with drewjc on here,he has the SPD-R and has also added a strap.
Id never ever use toe straps again,theres nothing like pulling ur foot or trying to ride with a numb foot.Ive also used keywins and they are pretty good.

I was a track sprinter in the 80's when this first became an issue. Clipless pedals back then sucked to be frank. I swore off them until I used Keywin with track lock. I firmly believe it is a confidence thing, most new pedals (good brand) are up to task but with the track lock you just feel that much more confident.

I guess nobody really understands my question. I see photos of many top sprinters using toe clip & strap pedals. If you go to http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/pedals.html you'll see the MKS RX-1 Track Pedals, the MKS Sylvan Track Pedals, the Wellgo Track Pedals, and I'm sure there's other brands out there. How does one use these pedals on the track if there are no cleats to go with them?

I'll probably continue to use my clipless pedals, but I can't even consider the other type if there are no compatible cleats.

These pedals are for use with straps which you also need to buy if you get these pedals. Just use your clipless pedals, many trackies do nowadays.
