  1. I watched the Diane Sawyer interview w/ Bill Clinton last night. They
merged that with an interview she did with Hillary Clinton. Hillary
seemed to blame President Clinton's heart attack on low carb eating.

She told Diane Sawyer that President Clinton had lost weight just
before his heart attack via LC by eating "cheesburgers and steaks
whenever he liked". Hillary said she questioned him about the diet
and was concerned that it may have contributed to his need for the
    bypass operation.

I was surprised such a savvy woman (I do think she is a very
intelligent person) would make such a statement or be so uninformed on
the cumulative nature of heart disease. Later in the interview,
President Clinton mentioned that many of his blood relatives passed
away in their 50's from heart disease. I'm guessing that his heart
condition may have resulted from a few decades of Big Macs...

Of course, my wife immediately gave me the third degree. I told her
to wait a few months and let's see what the blood tests say!

That's the PC line to take. Did you expect anything different?

Right! Everyone knows it had nothing to do with the Elvis-type diet he has
been eating for years! It just HAS to be the fault of giving up starches and
    sugars. <sigh>

I'm guessing that *and* the saturated fat in the diet *might* have had
    something to do with it.

Actually, I think she said he had gone on a "very low carb, high protein
diet" and that she had been concerned and didn't think it was good to have a
cheeseburger for lunch every day. (She didn't say whether that was with or
without a bun, but a bun would ruin the "very low carb" idea.)

Those tests are important. My cholesterol numbers were reasonable to
good except for ultra low HDL (good). Now they are all good with one
borderline. My HDL(good) doubled and my triglycerides reduced by 65%.
All while doing Atkins' style low carbing (not worrying about fat,
    outside of avoiding transfat).

My landlord has much worse cholesterol and she is taking medication
and now does South Beach(the low-carb that avoids fat more). Her
doctor went baliistic at the mention of Atkins. I'm not sure if she
admitted to him that she was doing South Beach or not. She lost weight
but she's having trouble sticking to it.

Wake up and smell the coffee. Bill Clinton had a serious weight
problem (and a family history of heart disease) long before he went on
South Beach. Get over it - own some responsibility for where you are.

  8. A 'Savvy woman'--yes, intelligient.......I would not go there....
Last time I checked she missed a whole bunch of stuff that a savvy and
    intelligent woman would not have!

    Political, yes..Intelligent...hmmmnnnnn.
Aware of what is going on.? Maybe, but not if it is right under her
nose, which is where the 'red phone' would be---IF....

Clintons family had heart problems--he had a very stressful
    job....overweight a bit....diet??

even us dumb rednecks know that heart disease does not happen
    'overnight'

....wonder what questions she really asked him?

....heck, if they wait a few days, there will be no problems, at least
according to john edwards, for, as he says, 'if john kerry gets
elected, people like christopher reeves will walk again'--should make
heart repair as easy as changing socks...

    FWIW.

Hi Mary L, you seem to be the only person here that has it right. It's
amazing how people that didn't listen or care to check out the transcript
can respond to something that they know nothing about. Here is exactly what
Senator Clinton said: "I didn't think it was healthy, but I know so many
people who are doing that now. I'd say, 'You really think you should have a
cheeseburger every day for lunch?"' she said in an interview broadcast
Friday on ABC News' "Good Morning America."

BTW, Clinton has a family history of heat disease and early death. These
problems also did not begin when he went low carb. CAD (Coronary Artery
Disease) is cumulative over a period of years.
