It is the usual anti-cyclist rant and I have to say, the cyclist they have in
the studio is *not* the best cycling advocate I've ever heard :-(

I've had enough - off to be a nuisance in Dereham 😉

Promise not to ride on the pavement...

I notice that the message boards are very similar to uk.transport in their
    treatment of cyclists.

OTOH, the driver was too. That [censored] about CO2 was most amusing.

Which, if we assume them to be more representative of Joe Public as a whole
than the petrolheads on uk.r.t, suggests that 'cycle advocates' in general
    need to review their efforts?

Indeed, the driver was so far out of his tree, he was over the Andes going
"WWEEEEEEE!" at the top of his voice. Sadly, pitting a idiot cyclist against
him does not do the trick. The idiot who was on supposedly promoting cycling
made me want to puke almost as much as the petrol-head.

I don't think that the regular "contributors" to the Jeremy Vine show
could be described as representative of Joe Public. Representative of a
certain (lobotomised, Daily Wail reading) slice maybe.

Radio 2 is usually on in the lab here, so I get to listen to it (I'd
prefer 3 myself, but R2 is an acceptable compromise for all). I used to
get driven up the wall a bit by the JYP and was actually rather pleased
to see it go, but Jeremy Vine is worse. If one likes pratty questioning
of idiots it's the Place To Be.

It was interesting to the extent that it demonstrated that a very
brief head to head argument unscripted in short time is no way to get
    at the truth.
The defence of pavement cycling did not sound good in this context.
Fortunately the car man was a lunatic, but then top gear has a large
following of knuckle draggers and no doubt many will have taken him
    seriously.
I think that the cyclist made most of the essential points, but in the
hot exchange detail and reason get obscured by insults and rubbish.

    Hi Helen

I wonder, was the anti-cyclist on the radio, David Thomas, the same
David Thomas as the one whose article drove you to write to the Daily
Mail a while ago. Your letter was published and your photo spashed all
    over the place :-)

    Jeremy Vine
    Listen again on Wednesday
The cyclist debate is one hour into the replay

Sorry, it's about one hour and five minutes - 4x15 and 1x5 minutes
    fast forward.

Missed the debate, but on the subject of JY vs JV...

I had a lot of respect for Jimmy Young - he seemed generally astute and
fair in his coverage of topics.

My view of Jeremy Vine is that he is a nasty [censored] who prefers flashy
    sound bites to reasoned argument.

[Perhaps another candidate for the UKIP along with Kilroy?]

My view is that he's a part-time waiter in the Four Cats restaurant in
Barcelona. No, really! I'm sure it was him, and he knocked off in time to
get back to London for Newsnight.

Cycling connection? Well El Quatre Gats was home to the painting of the
two blokes (one the painter himself Ramon Casas) on a tandem. The use the
image on their place mats. Well worth visit if only to take home a place
    mat.
