I imagine that betting a dollar to a doughnut carried more weight
when doughnuts cost 10 cents. At today's rate of 50 cents per
Fattie-nugget (more in airports), it isn't as impressive a wager
as it used to be.

Hey, how come all the Masters Fatties are complaining about the
increase in USCF license fees, and no one's [censored] about the cost

"Who?" I'd like the name of even one person riding a fixed gear in a
'cross race, and I'd like them to verify it. Not just some schmuck
who did it once, on a lark, but someone actually racing their fixie
throughout the season.

The reason I included the issue of continuity is that, of course,
there's got to be at least one nut job out there who's tried it. That
doesn't make it feasible and certainly not common.

Here in OBRA-land we are a bit more relaxed and work more at encouraging
participation. That might be part of the reason there were 610 participants
at that race. OBRA rules allow nearly any type of bike for cross. A 29er
would be legal with or without drop bars. Alpenrose was a bit over the top
though. There was one women who turn out with a regular track bike with no
brakes. That is actually against even OBRA rules and she should probably
not been allowed to start. She did start though and did surprisingly well.
Funny thing is that I have never seen her at a track race.

The Cross Crusade has had a history of adding a "special" category. This
year they added a unicycle class. Last year it was "Single speed in a
Speedo". Riders who wore only a Speedo got double points for the series.
The also got double points if they rode a fixed rather than SS freewheel.
The State Championships got double points relative to the other races in the
series. One person got 6x points by competing the State Championships on a
fixed in a Speedo.

I am not sure that many have ridden the more than one race fixed but there
are several people here that have entered at least one. I believe that
Norrene Godfrey has never ridden a cross race on a freewheel.
