  1. I basically suck on going over piles of logs that aren't low enough for me to roll over easily. I don't think it's just me - I think it might have to do with the fact that I don't have a suspension fork. I am riding a '97 Hardrock GX that I bought years ago just for city riding. Now that I am really into trail biking, I am realizing that I need a better bike which I plan to buy soon.

Anyway, are there certain techniques I can use to get over large piles of logs or will this be solved once I get a bike with a good fork?

I think I need to learn how to handle the bike better, overall. What are some things I can do to train myself to climb and hop over large obstacles?

I've only been biking since August, so I am a brand newbie. Any tips are appreciated! Thanks.

  2. hey, well id say the main things that ur going to need to get over those logs are clipless pedals and suspension front forks. the basic techinque is wheelie the front wheel, ( this can be done by applied weight to the front fork and then pulling up, but on ur rigid u might get away either tugging up real hard or u might have to do it the old fashioned way ) once the front is on top of the log ( if in clipless ) just jump and the back of the bike shld flow effortlessy over the log/logs or if on ur rigid u can either slame the front break on to life the back and then release again, quite difficult to do properly, otherwise just try to take ur weight off the pedals as the back wheel go's over the log. Um anything else? 🙄

  3. I ride a singlespeed with a rigid front fork so I know that a front suspension isn't absolutely necessary and your skills will become that much better without one. Your arms and legs will act as your suspension. Approach the log pile standing up and wheelie onto it. Think of it as just a mound of dirt and ride right over it. Most importantly...keep your speed up. Speed is your friend!! With good speed your momentum will carry you over the piles.

  4. wow why are you guys making it seem so hard. its all about weight transfer, all you have to do is as you approach said log throw your weight to the rear of the bike and lift your front wheel up and onto or over depending how high the logs, then as the wheel is coming down put your weight foward and the back wheel will roll over the logs. once you get good at this tho i suggest learning to bunny hop so you can get over higher objects.
