Rim Dilemma

bike shop for me. It looks like a pretty good set-up with good people
running the business. I like to have a good relationship with my hobby
hangs. I can't decide wether to go in and [censored] about it or to just eat the
loss. I know that if I get the ole' "sorry Charlie, you used them already"
routine, I'll probably lose my cool, and otherwise F-Up a new relationship
with a good shop close to where I live.

What would you do?

You paid for 317's. Go get what you paid for. If they are a good LBS,
they'll make it right.

You paid for 317's. Go get what you paid for. If they are a good LBS,
they'll make it right.

Exactly!

The same thing actually happened to me. The LBS apologized, and I picked
up the correct wheel set a couple days later.

Ya -- I know that's the right thing to do...on my part and theirs.
Hopefully they'll see it my way, and if not, I'll guess I'll find another
shop.

I'd point it out to them, and allow the choice of how THEY want to
rectify the problem.

if they can't fix it by giving you the correct rims, they can at least
find another way to make it up to you. if not then you might start
checking out other local bike shops... it's best to find these things
out in advance if you're going to have a long-term relationship with
them IMHO.

Good advice -- I actually spoke to my LBS today. On the Specialized
website, there is some fine print at the bottom of the spec. sheet for all
bikes. "Spec's subject to change without notice." At first glance, I
thought Bull S.!!! That's illegal!!! But the manager of the store called
them and they explained what that meant...something like this. Apparently,
when the spec was written, the specified rim was available. Since Mavic no
longer makes that rim (just found out this afternoon), the replacement is
what I got. They say it's an equivalent. And, since I've had good luck
with my Specialized bikes, I'll take them on their word. "Subject to change
w/out notice" just meant that they don't necessarilly update their website
(not deliberate false advertising).

The good news is it's not a switcheroo by my LBS.

The x317 is a much, much better rim. It's much stronger and still light.
If you ride a lot you will eventually fold the X223.

Mavic retired the X317 and replaced it with the "X717 DISC" Same weight,
same rim.

So if Specialized has a disclaimer that says specs can change whenever,
would you be happy if you paid for a full XTR bike and got one with a Deore
group? That's ok because you were warned that specs can change, right? If
this is the manufacturer's fault then they shouldn't be able to get away
with it. You paid for a certain quality and level of performance so it's
fair to demand what you paid for.
