Shoulda seen this one in theatres on the Big Screen. I kept saying 'oh my
god' just watching the snippets I allowed myself tonight. If you've seen it
I'll say what parts, but don't wanna spoil it.

If you don't have it, get it.

I have avoided seeing the whole thing on the movie channels, and got enough
of a taste to know I want the movie. Again, people, don't go by me, ymmv.

Lee also wrote a very moving and critically acclaimed move called "The Ice
Storm", totally differen genre and everything from this or "Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon".

But the comic fans panned this saying 'Nothing happened until 40 minutes
into the movie'. (now showing on cable in most areas)

So I didn't see it, didn't buy the DVD.

That's the last time I only listen to the fans, b/c this movie is quite
interesting to see, not only for the retelling of the legend, but also for
the original filmic style of Lee. The performances by the actors, imo, was
quit good, and allowances for Nick Nolte's slightly over-the-top
performance. I can forgive that as a fan of Nolte. Jennifer Connelly is
gorgeous and quite photogenic as Betty Ross, Hulks love interest.

I find it both enjoyable and rewatchable, and I've only seen the middle
portion. I'm thinking I'll not watch the beginning and just go get the DVD
for the wide screen.

Now in fairness to the ng, I have a uh, spechual bond with this character,
(and as most geeks of the 70s with comic books), that I won't go into, uh,
for fear of alienating the members here. ;-D

But, I think you'll like it, especially if you're a fan of Ang Lee. Most
remember him for a fairly recent movie about a lady and a tiger and a
hidden dragon.

Big Marvel fan here and love the Hulk, but Ang Lee sucks as a director.
All his movies have over the top eye candy to cover up his shortcomings
in story telling. I refuse to ever see another Ang Lee movie again. If
Steven Spielberg had directed this movie with Ang Lee as cinematographer
then this movie would probably have become a classic.

Yes that was one of the main criticisms, iirc. But let me tell you. I know
when I like a movie, and I can analyze a movie. But this one I just sat
back and enjoyed, eye candy, and over the top acting, and all. Here, I
think b/c I already knew the story, I really didn't need the background, I
caught all the nuances.

Him growing each time the threat increased, spitting the shell at the
NOTAR, and the fights with the dogs...

Despite any shortcomings, I enjoying myself the whole time, and I'm still
gonna buy the DVD.

One of my criteria for a movie besides the technical aspects and good
directing, lighting, score and acting is the 'rewatchability quotient'.
Some really crappy movies, by reviewer's standards, I can watch over and
over. One example, "Tremors". Most reviewers give it three stars, but I've
seen that movie at least 20 times. Very rewatchable. Not sure what makes
this happen, but...

Now some really good movies I can only bear to watch once. Go figure.

Oh, and when I was doing a lot of weight training, my buddies used to call
me that. Might have been my 18" arms, 18" neck, 18" calves, and 31" waist.
I had thighs almost as big as Eric Heiden's and was only 5'9", and 185lbs.

(Uh, funny thing now, my calves are even bigger than in my bodybuilding
days, and have grown 1.5", though my weight is higher at 225lbs. Weird,
huh? My calves are probably bigger than most cyclist's upper leg. haha. Ok,
weird also to be measuring your body parts, but that's an, uh, bodybuilder
thing holdover. lol.

it sounds like it might be worth a rental.

Worth the price of the DVD o the Hulk fights with several somethings. Don't
wanna give it away. It has a good sound track during the action scenes, and
should be a treat if seen on a big screen.

Some subtleties: As you know from Hulk legend, the creature increases in
power as his rage increases. He might do it in a couple different ways.
Look for instances when this happens during the film, including a very
subtle one in the fight mentioned above.

Don't have preconceived hopes for it. IOW, if you know the Hulk general
Origin, then don't compare the movie with canon. It generally follows it.

Many ppl said 'well nothing happens until 40 min. into the movie'. While
the first big 'Hulking' may occur then, a lot happens.

Finally try to overlook the one or two 'slow' sections where we see
flashbacks and motivations and over acting by Nick. It's not a huge deal.

It may be one of those that gets a bit of grief from the fans, but that you
can go back to a couple years later and find, in comparison, that you like
it.
