Your fear of reasonable vitamin D supplementation is unreasonable. In a person not getting sun, 4000 IU per day is a reasonable dose. This will prevent the winter time elevation of parathyroid hormone which likely can increase chances of your feared problem. Further, a vitamin K supplement of at least a milligram per day who do much to prevent ectopic calcification.

Not an issue in southern US (Frostbite that is) but what about sitting by a window exposed directly to the sun. We did that with my son when he first came home to help with the belirubin (jaundice).
