Canberra fixed gear?

Go and see Peter Taylor at Bike Culture in the O'Connor shops, he even races
on a fixed wheel in local vets races. I'm sure he'll be glad help you

"Bike Culture" in O'Connor are into fixed gear. Ask for Peter he built me some fixed -gear wheels great. Also rides a fixed gear bike.

Thanks to Tony and tpow for the recommendation. Chatted to Peter at
Bike Culture and found out about Aussie Junk out at Mitchell where
there are heaps of old roadbike frames.

I picked up an old Malvern Star road bike with near-new-looking
cranks/chainring, stuffed wheels, etc plus a pair of GP boots for my gf
for $15 total. Will post photos/etc soon.

I have been considering a fairly similar plan to yours for a while now, but I haven't found a candidate bike. I've been to the Revolve tip shop at Mugga lane a few times but didn't see anything suitable. I was hanging out for Second Hand Sunday in the hope I might find something then. http://www.nowaste.act.gov.au/new/second-handsunday.html

I didn't know about Aussie Junk though and I must admit I'm pretty excited about it. I'll have to head out there tomorrow.

I couldn't even find the Revolve tip at Mugga lane - drove around for a
while, saw a sign that seemed relevant, and then gave up. A mate said
there isn't much out there anyway.

For anyone else reading this, the map location that yellowpages.com.au
gives for Aussie Junk is violently wrong. You have to head out past the
exhibition grounds until you see an inverted 'Y' roadsign (the
median-strip disappears) and then you'll see Aussie Junk on the right.

If you come from the red hill end of mugga lane, it's a long way down that road. I usually get to it via the other end. There aren't as many bikes out there.

I didn't find a bike but my trip to Aussie Junk wasn't completely unsuccessful. My wife bought pictionary and some japanese books for $3.
