  1. well I've been on the Atkins plan for a week today and thought I'd report on
    my progress.

I'm finding it relativly easy so far. As you know I bought the chocolate
bars and things but havn't eaten them. I've been eating a lot of cheese and
peperami sausages. I've just got some beef jerky delivered too - which is
    nicer than I remember.

Suppliment wise I'm taking Atkins Dieters Advantage, Atkins Basic 3 and
feeling ok.co.uk's Fibre capsules for low carb diets.

I'm down to one cup of coffee a day and cut out all drinks appart from diet
coke, diet vanilla coke and diet sprite....and at least a couple of glasses
    of water a day.

Last week I was at 311lbs and I'm down to 297lbs today which is pretty good
I think....hopefully I can keep it up this week and be down past 290 next
    week.

Thanks for all your help so far guys.

Thanks! "Newbie" reports are always good, especially for the lurkers.

It's a start. Remember though, if you stall, ditch the diet sodas and the
caffeine. If you don't stall, don't worry about it. 🙂

Remember, almost all the weight you lose during the first two weeks will be
water weight. This level of weightloss is not average, nor sustainable,
through the entire diet. Also, as you get closer to goal weight, it will
get slower and slower. This is normal, so don't get discouraged when it
    happens.

So GLAD to hear you stuck with it!

    Peace,
    Pen

You are doing great. I will caution you that you most likely won't keep
this pace up even on your second week. I also think you shouldn't look at
this as a crash diet. If you do, I think you will fail. Take your time and
try to enjoy the diet. You may have a week or two at some point you won't
lose a pound, although I have not, but some people do. Just keep at it and
in a few months you will change your life.

Beware added sugar or corn syrup in jerky and prepared sausages; same thing
for deli meats they often have added sugar.

Oh, that's great. Very encouraging isn't it? Sure, much of it is likely
water, but still losing water like that (along with a little fat, no doubt)
is a good sign that your hormonal levels are improving a bit. Much of the
water can be from release of the water stored along with glucose in liver
and muscles, but excess insulin also is associated with water retention, so
as insulin levels lower you can see additional water released. And that's a
    very good thing!

    Keep up the good work.

    A couple of points.

For you to maintain the same rate of loss over a 2 month period is
entirely unrealistic. You've seen the data and should know that the
biggest part of your 'whoosh' loss is water loss, so you can't expect
it to continue. But that's okay... Just keep doing what you are
doing, but consider the one pound a week loss to be fantastic when
compared the weight gain you have been experiencing.

Eventually, you should consider a healthier meat than pepperoni and
beef jerky. Any chance you could switch to chicken legs or wings or
    .....

    Great work so far.

When those run out, consider just some good quality brand or a
generic equivalent of a good quality brand. The Atkins ones are
excellent but they do not deliver price-performance.

Lot's of people freak out at the natural bounce. Try to get on the
scale only weekly if there is any chance you will freak out.

Also note that fat loss maxes out around 2 pounds per week in most
cases. Early on the body drops stored carbs and the water it is
stored in and that's much faster. Never EVER look at the early
results and expect them to continue. At some point your body will
run out of stored carbs+water and you'll switch to fat-only loss.
*Celebrate* when that happens, and expect it.

the basic 3 were about £5.50 for a month supply and the dieters advantage
were £5.50 for a 3 week supply. The feelingok fiber ones were £8 for a 7
    day supply!

I disagree with Doug on a lot of things, and this is one. Getting on
scales only weekly doesn't affect the "bounce" - if you're a couple of
pounds high on that particular day it just makes you feel like [censored] about
the entire previous WEEK, instead of just that day.

My suggestion is to use FitDay or some similar system, and weigh daily at
the same time. I use "the lowest reading I can get off the scale before I
leave for work" - you could use the first/only, or last, or whatever
method you like, but my scale reads .4 -.6 high the first couple of times,
so that's what I do. That's not the key. The key is, don't freak about
that number. Look below where you enter the weight in FitDay, and
assuming you have entered a weight goal and date target, it will say that
you need to lose X lbs. per week to achieve that target. THAT'S the
number to track. If it keeps going up, you need to adjust either the
target or your loss rate. This gives you a much better time-weighted
average of your performance, while you still do all the scale-watching you
    like.

Hey, glad to hear from you again. Glad that you have stuck to the
plan. I second PJx's opinion that you might want to slowly introduce
more "normal" meat to replace the preserved meat that you're currently
eating. First there's less preservatives, then there's less salt or
that you can control how much salt goes into your food.

I highly recommend Safeway (Morrison's) corn fed chicken. Given the
amount of money you're spending on pepperami, you probably won't find
it any more expensive to buy some good quality chicken. The Marks and
Sparks irish chicken (something Gold, I can't remember) is also very
very good, and cheaper than the Safeway corn-fed. I rarely shop at
Tesco / Asda / Sainsbury, they might have similar stuffs if you don't
    shop at Morrison / M&S.

    Keep us posted!

    Cheers,
    Ada

my mum does the weekly shopping at Asda normally, I stop in at tesco's on
the way home from work as it's the only 24 hour store in the area and I
would normally go to Safeway if I was shoping during the day. I dont really
like chicken cold though. I'm a big fan of chicken but not when it's
cold...and the peperami's are easy to throw in my pocket and eat in the car
on the way to work or save for when I'm on my break or something...

cool I'll have a look. I thought that was good prices compaired to other
sites considering they were half price the usual atkins price.

Can you tell me if theres an equivalent to the dieters advantage and any
    kind of fibre thingy?

You'd better check yourself - I'm not into the dieter's stuff, and am using
