|| Good point, I am trying to lose fat and get fitter. Weight training
|| is one of the means I am using to improve this, but I have never
|| approached this from a restricted calorie/carb angle. I thought this
|| board had more perspective from that angle.
This board is about LC....many over in MWF are interested in weight loss and
some of us here are over there too.
|||||
||||| For about the last month I have not been able to sustain any

||||| in lifting weights.
|||
||| So? Without any background information whatsoever, your comment
||| makes little sense.
|||
||
|| Sorry. I fight the completeness/brevity battle in every post and
|| sometimes I lose. I am 38 years old. I have been working out on and
|| off for about 15 years as life situations allow. I have been on the
|| current run for about 8 months. I lift 3 times a week. I never
|| really practiced a calorie restricted diet during that time so my
|| experiences of weight lifting on restricted are fairly new.
What is your weight, height, and calorie level? Are you LCing and if so,
how many carbs are you eating. Also, are you doing any other exercise?
||||| None of the usual wall busting techniques that
||||| have worked previosuly allow me to sustain a new level. If I do
||||| get
||||| a to higher weight, I find I can't repeat it in the next session.
|||
||| So? Do you think you can just keep increasing weight continuously?
||| What makes you think that once you hit a higher weight that you
||| should always be able to repeat it at the next workout?
||
|| Yeah, but this isn't that much weight (benching 165 lbs). I've done
|| more in the past and I have been at the current level for about a
|| month now.
Okay - that makes sense now.
I have tried to break through about 3 times and just had
|| to fall back down. I have never encountered this bounce back before.
|| I guess as a secondary question, am I doing myself any harm(burning
|| more muscle, making myself more injury prone) going through this?
Impossible to know. Can you answer the question I posted above?
|||
||||| It's kind of like a bounce back from hitting the wall. I've never
||||| experienced this before, but I also have never controlled my
||||| calories this strictly before. I realize muscle gain and fat
||||| loss are pretty much mutally exclusive, but I didn't think I
||||| would encounter it at
||||| this level.
|||
||| At what level? How are we supposed to know your calorie level?
|| I guess I would say level of weight. I would consider it better that
|| the average person off the street, but not near anyone who does it
|| seriously. I expected the wall would come a lot farther out,
|| especially since I have been beyond this level before.
It all depends...some people are just not good at bench press. You've done
more, but how much more? Do you have long arms? What kind of training
routine are you using?
|||
|||||
||||| If I didn't get the bounce back, I would write it off to needing
||||| to
||||| suck it up and keep pushing harder, but now I have to wonder if I
||||| need to make the choice of stepping back a little bit back from
||||| the
||||| wall and sustaining strength while trying to lose weight, or
||||| backing
||||| off of weight loss for a while (and increasing calories) to add
||||| strength.
|||
||| So what is your goal? You do need to set a goal and work toward
||| it. If weight loss is most important, than simply train to keep
||| your strength. It may turn out that if you just keep at it that
||| your strength may continue to improve, just not at a rate that YOU
||| think it should.
|||
||
|| My primary goal is to lose fat and weight lifting is one of the means
|| I am using to do this. The challange of trying to lift more keeps me
|| interested. I am interested at this transition because if I have to
|| start consuming more calories to add muscle, I am worried about being
|| able to scale calories back when I decide to get back into losing
|| weight.
As you know, adding muscle will be nearly impossible for you if you're
trying to lose weight. Probably moreso if you're LCing, too. Having
conflicting goals will very likely result in it taking longer for you to
achieve them.
You might consider either a targeted ketogenic diet or a cyclical ketogenic
diet. Try google on those terms.
