Many thanks for the replies to previous post Sat down in the garden today and decided to have a play with the old chain I had to split to get apart. A couple of tries and I got the knack. Went and tried with the chain on the bike (500+ miles) so easy now. I naturally appear to have strong nails, forefinger behing link thumbnail presses the middle of the kink against thumb, push link together and chain is split.
