  1. If you consume more sodium on one day than usual do you drink more water in
    an attempt to flush the system or will the water just be retained longer
    because of the additional sodium?

    No -- I don't worry about it, or for that matter concern myself with
    tracking short-term water weight gains or losses. After all, it is
    water, and not fat. Just be make sure to drink 8-10 8 oz. glasses of
    water consistently on a daily basis, or a bit more if you exercise
    more strenuously than usual and you'll be fine.

    Generally speaking, no. The opposite is usually the case.
