Forgive me if this sounds dumb. But in processed Low Carb foods, such
as Atkins dry cereals, does one not, for weight loss purposes, count
the total carbs and not the 'net' carbs Aren't 'net' carbs for blood
glucose levels only.

"net" carbs should mean the carb count minus fiber (and sometimes sugar
alcohols).
So if there is a high-fiber cereal with 20 total carbs, but 18 of those are
fiber, you subtract the 18 from 20 and end up with 2 net carbs.
Hope this answers your question.

In all food, count all carbs minus fiber.

So one does not gain weight eating fiber?
If so I'm happy because I use a lot of Atkins cereals, muffin mix etc.
Also a few low-carb Keebler cookies once in a while.

No, fiber is not digested, it passes through aiding elimination on its trip.
In fact, the cure for constipation is more fiber.

This doesn't sound dumb at all.
I count everything. This is not a popular thing to profess, because many people
really enjoy all the sweet new products that Atkins and other companies are
marketing. If consumers counted all the carbs in these items, they might be
discouraged from purchasing them. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the
companies to say "subtract the fiber" because of course then people will be
more likely to buy the products.
I count all carbs and then find my CCLL (well now it's my maintenance level.) I
found all that subtracting to be a pain in the neck and pointless.
YMMV of course.
By counting all the carbs and subtracting nothing, I know what I'm eating, and
I focus less on magic math. You know magic math: it's the kind of math that had
me getting on the scale naked before my shower to find out "what I really
weigh." And then to weigh myself again after using the bathroom to find out
"what I really weigh now." Magic math gets in the way of my common sense, so
that I eat what I am allowed rather than what I need or even really want.
Subtracting the carbs to me is another example of the same dieting pattern that
kept me fat for so many years. It was time for me to stop the madness. Atkins
is so simple, but this carb subtracting process just complicates something very
easy: meat, greens, good oils, and water. When I eat like that I don't have to
count anything other than the clothes that don't fit any more, which I was able
to donate to someone who needs them more than me.
Without all the subtracting, it's not a diet, it's the way I eat.
Beautiful.
In loving support,
Bridget M.

Your math is flawed...you must weigh yourself naked AFTER your shower, dirt has
weight 🙂

And you must get yourself thoroughly dried, and before you put on face cream,
body lotion, etc.

Absolutely! Even in my dirtiest, grimiest ever state... I'm certain I still
weigh less than I do when my hair is wet. My hair is 2 feet long... maybe
more. 🙂
That's why I shower at night. I go to sleep with wet hair, and when I wake
up it's all dry and clean and quick to do. It's also dry and light for my
Friday morning weigh-in.

Gosh, is THAT all? I just measured mine - over 3 feet from crown of
head to end of braid. I KNOW wet hair adds weight to me because I've
done it! Weighed myself before and after a shower and seen it for
myself.

I only wash my hair once or twice a week because it's so long and
thick that it takes forever to dry. I hate going to sleep with wet
hair, and I have burned out many blow-dryers trying to speed up the
process. Usually I wash my hair about 2 or 3 hours before going to
bed so it has a reasonable chance to dry before braiding it for bed.

Fibre is not counted in the carbohydrate column because it is not
digestable by humans.
