No matter when I eat, and even though I eat very small portions...my
stomach is always bloated for 3 or 4 hours afterwards. Is this normal? I
drink very little liqud with meals, only a few sips to aid in
swallwing.
I have wanted to ask some of ya'll about this, but maybe this is
normal, then I'll feel udderly dumb or stupid (which is what JC says
about all my posts anyway).
I just sat down in recliner to log on, I can feel and hear the
substance in my belly "sloshing" and it is very uncomfortable. If I rock
or move around, or God Forbid, try to bend over....it feels as if I
shall throw up and can actually feel the food coming up into my
esophagus. The same thing if I attempt to drink any significant amount
of water or any other liquid more than 2 or3 oz at a time. How long
should it take normally for the stomach contents to pass into the
intestines.
I ate exactly 10 pork skins w/2Tbs sour cream and drank small glass
Atkins Peach Tea (ice cubes). I assume my stomach was relatively empty,
had eaten breakfast at 11:30 AM (6 hrs ago) which was 2 slcs. bacon and
1 scrambled egg. I have small cup that holds 6 oz coffee which is what I
drink and sometimes pour half of it out. I also have a problem eating
eggs, sometimes I cook it and just can't handle it. I feed it to the
cat. LOL I never ate breakfast before I started LC two months ago and I
am trying to make myself.
When I have dinner I will eat it in small portions...a few bites of
everything (4-5 oz meat and cup string beans, desert of SF Jell w/whip
cream). I leave it and go back and eat more a while later, then again.
Before bed I eat a snack and small glass of Soy Silk or Carb Countdown.
My stomach is always quesey at night, but can tolerate it better when
lying down and on my way to meet the sandman.
Having to eat this way, so my stomach won't feel sick all day, means I
actually eat 5 or 6 times daily. Do you suppose that is OK?
Before I stopped working I would go all day without eating, could not
work with tummy bloated for 4 hours.
Must be something wrong somewhere, 'cause still haven't lost any more
since the first month (6 lbs). I am still under 20 Carbs daily, Fat
60-90 gms, Cal 900-1200. According to info in Atkins and Southbeach,
that should cause weight loss even in sedentary LCers.
My physical activity is very limited because of Pulmonary Disability,
30 min Treadmill on good days.
I have been doing extensive research on the medications I am RXed.
Thinking back I distinctly remember starting to gain weight when I was
DXed with GERD and recurring stomach ulcers. That was 18 yrs ago, have
been taking Prevacid/Prilosec or some type of H2 blocker ever since.
I stopped taking it in Jan, had trouble getting Ins to pay for it. I
ended up in hospital with a tummy full of ulcers and had to take
Prevacid two times a day till it healed. I already asked the group about
their experiences with GERD. Most said they were able to completely stop
taking med for it.
I just wish I had better results, I found out last week that my
Cholesterol and Triglycerides have gone back up to 297 and 210. Doc
insists that I go back on 40mg Lipitor and Zetia. I just can't go that
route again, it makes me feel so bad, my legs and arms ache and can
barely get out of bed.
Somebody in the group asked me before if I was calculating my Carbs,
etc correctly. I use the Atkin's Carb Counter Book. If I can't figure
out what I'm doing or not doing correctly, I shall be happy to post my
daily menus for a few days and maybe you guys can show me what to "cut".
This post is already too long. Thanks for your suggestions and advice,
You too JC....and how about change it this time, I want a new one, not
your same old worn out, "Eat less, and exercise more."

then bacon. You write the above as if it were just a small amount of food, but
that stuff is heavy duty! -

fayeActually Faye, in light of the factors I listed above (the four
strikes against you) eating less is good advice. You just don't need
the number of calories even most sedentary women your own age do. You
already try and get exercise, continue that and up it as you're able.
Yup, I am saying "Eat less and exercise more". Sorry ;-)Take care,

Faye, you probably do need to eat less and exercise more. More importantly,
you need your insulin resistance and likely stomach infection evaluated and
treated.Susan

It doesn't have to be that hard.
In the morning, make yourself eat. Just a couple of eggs, maybe a slice of
cheese on it.Later, try a salad. Drench it with dressing.
Much later, don't go hog-wild. Have a steak, some cooked veggies should be
in there, but just do it.Lamenting about how things won't change does no good if you don't change
anything. -
Now see what you did, JC? You got the others telling me to "eat less

your fault, JC.

After adapting to low carb it is normal to eat tiny portions. If the
"small" portions make you feel bloated/ too full, it is probably a sign you
should reduce the portion size.I find it is better to use a portion that may be too small, with a plan to
come back for more in 30 minutes. Often, I find I am satisfied with the
original portion and wait 3 hours for the next mini-meal.Good luck,

I ate exactly 10 pork skins w/2Tbs sour cream and drank small glass
Atkins Peach Tea (ice cubes). I assume my stomach was relatively empty,
had eaten breakfast at 11:30 AM (6 hrs ago) which was 2 slcs. bacon and
1 scrambled egg. I have small cup that holds 6 oz coffee which is what I
drink and sometimes pour half of it out.I sometimes use coffee or tea as an active digestion suppressor.
If I have enough coffee with dinner it stay in my stomach longer
so I feel full longer. It gives me that sloshing you report so
I don't do it often. If coffee and tea are interfering with your
digestion, try switching to pure water only during meals and
wait until your stomach empties for the flavored liquids. It
can't hurt and it's something easy to try.Quoted message said:

eggs, sometimes I cook it and just can't handle it. I feed it to the
cat. LOL I never ate breakfast before I started LC two months ago and I

of not eating breakfast fighting for its life? Lot's of newbies
report getting sick of eggs and sure enough if they stick with it
for a while eggs slowly become comfort food.Quoted message said:
Having to eat this way, so my stomach won't feel sick all day, means I
actually eat 5 or 6 times daily. Do you suppose that is OK?Many people deliberately try for 5-6 small meals to help lose
faster, so yes it is fine.Quoted message said:
Must be something wrong somewhere, 'cause still haven't lost any more
since the first month (6 lbs). I am still under 20 Carbs dailyConsider Atkins. No, not the part about you opening your book
shoiwng me how you have permission to stay at 20 as long as you
want. Look back exactly how that's worked for you. I mean the
core 4 phase Atkins process from the table of contents. Lots of
folks stall *because* they stayed at 20. It's a very common
source of stalls with well known biochemistry (thyroid T3 and
leptin hormones). Move on to OWL today. Your quota today
should be 25, next week 30, etc until you spend a week out of
ketosis to find your CCLL.Think about it - You want to stay low because you *want* staying
low to mean more loss. But you have already proven that
staying low does NOT mean more loss. Staying low is obvious.
Do you think there's the slightest change that Dr A forgot to
try soemthing that obvious when he designed his system? Of
course not! He ended up with a plan that's not obvious
specifically because what's not obvious out performs the
obvious. Step out in faith! Follow the rest of the 4 phases.Quoted message said:

How long
should it take normally for the stomach contents to pass into the
intestines.

eggs, sometimes I cook it and just can't handle it. I feed it to the

am trying to make myself.

Must be something wrong somewhere, 'cause still haven't lost any more
since the first month (6 lbs).I will say it again-I've said in many posts-ditch all the dairy, the artificial
sweetener, ditch the fake foods, and eat some chicken or meat and some
vegetables. Herbs are good too, for flavor. And personally I think part of the reason you are nauseous is not just all the
junk, but that you aren't eating enough. Don't worry about how many times a day
you eat. When you are hungry, eat meat and vegetables. No shakes, bars, rinds, dip, whipped cream, artificial sweetener, "products"
etc. Just food. How about if you try that for 2 weeks and see how you feel, anyway? It seems to
me it has to be better than what you have been dealing with for many years.Just my opinion, of course!
And check out candidapage.com. Eliminating the foods can help with the bloating
if candida is part of the problem. Also, I've heard people say their GERD went
away on a strict candida control diet. if you have a H Pylori problem that the
candida diet can fix.In loving support,

--snipJeezus! You eat like a garbage can. Atkins this and that, a ton of
saturated fat and artificial sweeteners. You must be the picture of
health. No wonder your stomach is always upset. For starters, throw
away all that Atkins frankenfood and start eating real stuff like lean
meat, skim milk and vegetables.
