I have started drinking more water, by having a full glass every 2 hours.
I have heard that after a while your system gets used to it and doesn't keep running it out. But now, two months later, I am still having to go almost every hour (as opposed to two or three times a day before).
It's very inconvienent, should I drink less?

It has to go somewhere, you could try wearing warmer clothes so you would sweat more of it out.

Have you had tests for kidney function? The high protein diet can affect kidney function. I find I have to go more often regardless of how much water I drink.

It sounds like a lot of water if you are sitting around all day doing no exercise. If you are peeing clear all the time, I would think you can drink less. Maybe cut back 1/4 and see how it goes. If you are exercising, that changes everything.

How active are you? Do you live in a warm or cold environment? Is it a humid environment? These all have a bearing on how much water you need.
I need 4 or 5 litres a day - but then I cycle at least 30km a day, and it's summer, so I sweat buckets when I'm out cycling. Even when cycling all day (>100Km), I make sure I need to pee at least once every couple of hours - my idea being, if I'm peeing, then I'm not dehydrated.
Dehydration is a Very Bad Thing - peeing a lot should be looked upon as a Good Thing - a reward for a lifestyle choice well executed 😉

My system got used to increased water intake...At work, I have an insulated 52oz water jug that I empty at least twice a day, sometimes three times a day... that isn't counting what I drink when I'm not at work. I love water. 🙂 Maybe you should try "holding it" to allow your bladder to expand? When you need to go, make yourself wait 15 to 30 minutes first. Try that for a week and see if it helps expand your bladder. Bladder size can really change, and the sensation of your bladder being full is what makes you need to go... so if your bladder is larger, you won't need to empty it as frequently.

[censored]. Complete and utter horsepuckey.
People who *already* have severe kidney disease have to limit protein, Eating a lot of protein is not known to cause kidney impairment.
While often billed as "protein" diets, because high-fat diet doesn't sound marketable, low-carb diets like Atkins and Protein Power get the majority of calories from fats, not protein, and usually don't have much more protein than the average not-dieting American.

Exactly. Bladders vary. When I first started low carbing, I was up most every night several times, and Queen Elizabeth knighted me "Sir Peesalot."
And I have a formidable bladder. One that people in the bars used to envy. I could sit and drink all night and never move from my chair, while others were going frequently.
In time, the increased water intake will find its own way out. Just takes patience.

I am not sure if this is a good idea - we need a doctor / doctor to be (Carmen!) to say something on this! I know people who for some medical reason cannot go to toilet very often have to have the bladder expanded by surgery. Else the kidneys will get flood and they'll be damaged in the long run.

may be reduce it to 10 oz every 2 hours and see if you can reduce your pee frequency to once every 2 hours?
100 oz is almost 3 litre a day (talking to myself obviously as I have to use convert-me.com to find out what is a 100 oz), from what I heard people usually recommend 2 litre a day (depending on the volume of your body). So if you can cut it down to may be 70-80 oz and see what happens?

According to the charts, I need over 100 oz a day.

But wouldn't recommendations vary a lot based on how hot it is out and how much exercise you are doing? Could it also be wise to look at reducing the intake of any kind of diuretics (like caffeine) and to think about any side effects that medications/supplements may be having?

Sorry for bopping in the middle of the thread. I've recently discovered that if you bend forward while urinating, your bladder will empty more completely. I don't have to go nearly as often as I used to since starting this strange, but effective, practice.

How did you come up with this idea? It certainly can't hurt anything. 🙂

Purely by chance. I told Crash about it, and he said he's known about it for years. Since starting this, I don't even have to go right before going to bed, and I have no worries about having to get up in the middle of the night.
Sounds silly, but next time, go until you're finished, then bend forward. You'll be surprised at how much is still lurking in there!
