This is a web project a few of us are putting together for people wanting to
explore the P: Pyrenees for the first time. We aim to provide information
that goes beyond the guide books and which tries to give newbies an idea of
what it will be like, how fit they will need to be, etc.

At the moment we are working on the structure and will be constructing
things over the winter. The aim is for this to be reasonably open; we will
be encouraging people to contribute in the form of a comment, a review, an
article, a photo for example.

We will be concentrating on the things you need to know. For example, catch
the Stansted flight to Pau and it is unlikely that you can get to Lescun
that same evening - the walk up from the bus stop being 3 hours and the taxi
driver in Bedous having knocked off at 19.00 hours. Where can you buy
Coleman gas? That kind of thing!

We will try and make it something that evolves and is a bit newsy. Hoping
to get an interview with Kev Reynolds over the winter.

Why not join us? I'm better at France than Spain!

I normally stick to the Spanish side (GR11) but did a bit around Gave
d'Aspe and Cauterets this year>

I really like d'Asp valley. This year I started at Cauterets and then spent
all of the time trekking on the High Route. Great stuff!

I know the area pretty well, if you need any help. The area I know particularly
well is from the Garvanie hillls to the Pic Mid D'Osseau massif, both sides of
the border.

We're planning to go back next summer after an absence of some 6 years.

I like the sound of this 🙂 count me in if I can be of any help (like,
the shop at Lescun is now closed 🙁 and we managed to persuade a couple
of young guys that they really *should* get their gas in Pau while they
had the chance.
We've been mostly on the GR11 for the last 7 years
mail me direct but remove 'spamband'

Exactly!!! It was Lescun that gave me the idea. A couple of years ago I
spent five days at the campsite - which has to be the most beautiful
setting. I was in a field with a number of brits and dutch people. Most of
them were completely scuppered because they couldn't find Coleman gas
cylinders and the guide books said they could (the shop had closed). The
campsite shop had Camping Gaz but even this ran out!

Worse came a few days later when I walked over to Borce only to find that
the campsite had closed!

I'll give you an email later as well!
