Border terrier?

I don't have an enormous garden, but I'd be able to take a dog out in
the morning and then running/walking in the evening. D'you think a
border terrier would be happy in a smallish garden during the day?

was slightly bitten by a nasty little terrier of some description. No doubt
its disposition and manners reflected those of its owner. Totally
inexcusable to take such an animal to a place where there may be children
and livestock etc.

Methinks it would be good to have an alligator to accompany me on these
trips. Any other ideas?

Eek... I wouldn't want a stroppy dog. I get scared running in the
woods, because of the dobermans and rotweillers and things... but the
Border Terriers I've met have all been very smiley and friendly.

(I reckon the best way to deal with an aggressive small dog is to kick
it into touch...)

I've seen a lot of Border Terriers in the last year or two. They seem
to be likable little dogs who mind their own business, unlike Jack
Russell's, one or two of which have nipped at me as I passed.

I went to Broughton Game Fair a few years ago, and one attraction was
the Border Terrier racing. They chase a pulled 'hare' across a field
and through a narrow gap in a wall of hay bales. It has to be seen to
be appreciated, because they are really fast, and when they all tried to
get through the gap at the same time it was hilarious!

I imagine they are a fun dog.

Never known a stroppy Border! other terriers yep but not borders.
My JR/ border cross did the glidders no probs and the Snowdon horse shoe!

You weren't carrying a carbon fibre, tungsten carbide tipped trekking pole
then - in through the mouth and out through the a**e!

If it isn't, it won't be there when you get back. Those suckers sure can
dig. (based purely on friends comments and observation).

They make lousy guard dogs BTW - I ran into one at a farm miles from

near Llangollen (or it did the last time I went through the farmyard a
few years ago).

It's a typical farmyard. There are piles of muck, bags of fertiliser,
tractors, bits of old tractors etc and you can't instantly tell which
way you have to go to get back onto the path. The first time I went
that way the Collie charged over to me and I thought I was going to be
invited to leave, but he led me to the other stile/gate and didn't
bark until after I'd got onto the path!

He seemed to be saying "They all go this way .... but you can stay a
bit longer if you fancy."

By the way, I am definitely a BC person ...... and know that they are
possible of joined-up thinking.

We had one some years ago. We were joined on a walk somewhere in the
Dales area by a BC, which accompanied us for quite a way, then stopped.
It was probably escorting us off the premises. :-)

Something about runners attracts them. I walk if a dog becomes a
nuisance - sems to calm them down.

Living in London my parents bought a border terrier the day my great
grandmother died. I was 6. The dog lived a happy 14 years and I and
my bothers grew up happily with the little canine, learning all about
reproduction when the [censored] had a litter of puppies.

Initially it was walked to school at 8.30 and back again, and again at
3pm, and onto The Heath at about 9.30pm. When my younger brother
started secondary school my mother started working 2 days a week and
the dog was kept indoors from 8am to 4pm with only occasional mishaps.

A great dog. My parents have just bought another to help keep them
active during their retirement.
