Got a completion party coming up.. just noticed that the SMC have sneaked this sub top onto their current list. Ummed and aghhed about the necessity to do this top, as I dont really take much notice of the 1997 tables due to the random rearangement of Munros. I had got all Southern Upland tops in my copy, but finding a free afternoon and wanting a break from constructivism , I legged it down to Megget Water, Selkirkshire, for an afternoon in the wind and rain.
The reservoirs were full and the "llaethnant" phenomonon was very apparant, white water running off everything. Talla was glorious as ever. A wet start up the Cramalt Burn (NT195231) was not encouraging. This glen is rather interesting, it still has trees along the burn and some broken crags under the OS demoted ex corbett Cramalt Craig. There is a track up the glen now, giving out just below Notman Law the missing top. A quick easy ascent to a flat smooth top which to be honest is a borderline case, but I think just deserves inclusion. If it were Black Mountain I would put it on my list. Concience clear it was a rough wet descent (at least the rain had finished) over the Theives Road that runs beneath the top and back to the track. BAck at Cramalt after just over 2 hours. Quite refreshing.

Been up there a couple of times, always in bad weather & from the Manor side. Will have to go back sometime for the deleted top at NT196251...

I dont know.. the Cleuch part is Dave Hewitt's doing, I am just waddling over to Blairdenon afterwards...
But I am going to make an executive choice here... I am going up The Law. Who's party is this anyhow? He can have his fun on his 500th Cleuch ascent next week.

A lovely day, cold and crisp with an interesting route up Ben Cleuch followed by a slow decline to Sherrifmuir. Good views Merrick to a snowy Ben Nevis.

Enjoyed it - a good introduction to the joys of the Ochils. The steep climb up Mill Glen was a delight with the autumn colours.
Also some entertaining tales of the local hillwalking folk. I thought I was doing well with multiple ascents of Black Hill et al in the Dark Peak, but I'm no where near to matching 1600+ ascents of Ben Cleuch. If I make my second ascent next Saturday I might overtake that target in 20erm?

Meanwhile I was up my local marilyn again today, but this was a simple 50 minute trip in my lunch hour... These Cleuch bashers are amazing.
