Looked in Waterstones Bradford yesterday and there are some around new ones of the area Manchester with a grey patch on the spine. Local ones are not available yet.

There have been very few Explorers updated so far this year.

Looks OK at first glance, they have not wiped out any contours..... Unfortunately in the Peak they have also used green that clashes with woodland..Computer artifact?

All the new maps for the open access areas were published officially the same day as the rights came into force. How long it will take for them to filter though the supply chain to individual stores is a moot point.
They are distinguishable from the old mapping by having the open access symbol on the cover

Acording to a TV report the OS have been working *very* hard on the right to roam/open access update.

Indeed they have. I believe a fair number of revised explorers are due out soon, but at present most are available only in their original printing, or with very minor (no new ISBN) changes.
