Stunning day for the hills yesterday - not a cloud in the sky and too
good to miss.
I decided on a first visit to Ben Each, and set off from Loch Lubnaig up
Glen Ample. Ignoring the suggestion in the SMC guide to follow burns
onto the hill, I headed directly for its western slopes only to discover
a discrete but well established path to the summit. A few false tops
and the job was done.
To make a day of it, I followed the knobbly ridge on to Stuc a'Chroin,
thence over Ben Vorlich and down to Ardvorlich. Perfect conditions and
great views all day.
Coming down the steep, rocky, north side of Stuc a'Choin there was
plenty of evidence for the rearrangement of terrain following the recent
rain storms. However, getting down to Bealach an Dubh Chorien by
following a path somewhat to the right (east) wasn't a problem.
Also on the subject of those storms, it might be worth pointing out the
minor road on the south side of Loch Earn is not passable at Edinample
because of bridge damage. Coming to Ardvorlich from the west via the
A85/84 requires a long drive round the Loch via St Fillans, or a 3-4km
walk along the road from wherever it's possible to park.
