Free Map - Pentlands.

There has always been good support like this for the Pentlands but
it seems to stay very low profile. I suppose there is no revenue
in it. I'm amazed you found the Harlaw place open. It's
always locked when we get there.

Yes, that's a good one. And one of the few ways of getting across
the by-pass without touching a main road. (In fact the only other
access I can think of is at Swanston and less helpful, the canal).

I'll have to dig out my Pentland-bagging list sometime. According
to my classification we have 1. Scald Law, 2. Allermuir Hill and
3. Black Hill. I don't remember the rest.

There are still some spurs at the southern end I haven't walked yet.

I'm afraid that I'm falling in with the idea that the Northern end of the
Pentlands is quickly becoming a "park" - I never thought I'd see myself
agreeing with Jim Crumley. The latest footpath repairs overs Maidens Cleugh
are hideous. Frankly, I'd rather they'd left it the way it was (nice and
fast on a bike now tho).

Favourite place in the Pentlands has to be Wolf Craigs.

Went over there yesterday - foul. Plenty of good ways to repair a
path, this is not one of them.. And was it required there? There is
another horror From Bavelaw to Habbies How as well.

The MAidens Cleuch one is interesting, as there have been recent
repairs to the Glencorse side too. Only here they have used the local
stone. Even new, this looks and feels so much better, and part of the
hill. The "Dhustone" track to the west is out of place.. Where did
they buy all the dolerite like rock, Dalmahoy?

What really brasses me off, returning to the hills after a few years
away is the all pervading patronising nanny notices and attempts to
gomlise a lot of the range without daring to say so openly. They try
and make you feel guilty for leaving the tracks.....

Its a park!

Actually I was trying to be clever with my post, Richard. But you are
quite correct.

Castelaw is good for sledging in the winter too. The snow line is
often the car park.
