Hi, I just finished packing my rucksack for the Southdown's way next week. and I'm wondering what the average pack weight is for a rucksack with tent cooker waterproofs sleeping bag thermarest, 2 litres of water and three days food is. mine came to 14.1/2kg tonight. Thanks
if your wondering why only three days food, that's because I'm stashing half along the way.

South Downs Way in just six days! You are a nutter and I claim my £5 -- Phil Cook
Pack weights? This must be one of ukrw's favourite topics! Your weights sounds good to me. I did an overnight stay on Braeriarch a wee while ago and my pack weight was about that but with only one and a half days of food in it.
Cheers, Jiffy
PS: What rucksack have you got? Mine weighs 2.25kg instead of it's stated 1.5kg so I'm looking for something better.
I'm using a lowe alpine frontier 75ltr rucksack. it weighs 2.50kg. "Jiffy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Some 25 years ago, I did the SDW in four days :-) Route finding was difficult! Pack weight then, about 30lb - so 14kg seems a little heavy, given today's modern materials.
it works out at about 17 miles a day, so I don't think that crazy for doing it, but I did use to think that walking more than a mile was to far, so maybe its actually totally insane. "Phil Cook" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

OK OK I goofed! I forgot that it is much shorter than the NDW. -- Phil Cook looking north over the park to the "Westminster Gasworks"
