is it within the capabilities of a mere walker to return to wasdale head
from lingmell via the path alongside piers gill?About 35 years ago I climbed the path on the east side of Piers Gill
on the way to Scafell Pike and don't remember anything specially
difficult about it. The west side is a different matter. I remember
the body of someone who tried it being recovered from the gill three
or four years ago.HTH

I descended along the East side of the gill with Timothy (then aged 7)
last Autumn. No problem. The path, of course, is not actually in the
gorge, but quite a bit above. If you wanted to do gill scrambling
proper (ie mostly in the water) then it would be a different kettle of
fish.--

No problem. The route up the bed of the gill is a different matter
though - a Severe rock climb!
