Start from near Loch Dobhrain and head for Maola Breac. That will
present you with the driest route although the 1st km will probably

Just come back from 2 weeks there. Did not tackle these, but although it is
always pretty boggy, there was not much rain.....plenty of wind and only a
few rainy nights, so it may be a good time to do that walk.

climbed Beinn Mhor a week ago 8-)
no problems with the bogs. We started on the track just south of Loch
Dobhrain, about 50m north of the memorial to 2 Bards. At the end of the
track we wandered left and across the moor, following little high bits
left by the peat cutters and the generally higher ground. It was fairly
dry underfoot and we got up and down with dry shoes! So it wasn't too bad
to cut across. Would be a lot worse if it has been raining a lot. So not
that bad.
There is a faint path on the S side of the W ridge that leads up to the W
col. I can give you GPS readings for all this of you want it.
The summit ridge is superb!
We didn't go onto Hecla, but there is a lot of descent and ascent!

We met two other parties, they had parked at the water tower, a bit
further south and said they followed a fence most of the way. this would
work for Beinn Mhor only, but not good for getting back from Hecla.
Also the N ridge of Hecla looks really good. If you have two cars, make
the N to S traverse.

In from Loch Dobhrain, and then up to the bealach with Beinn
Corradail, return from Beinn Mhor to peat track in May this year.

No bog problems, but the first 1km will be wet. soon dries out. Both
hills very fine...

Othe rSouth Uist hills are swampier - Airnebhal to the road is a bit
of a brute
