  1. Hello all, I am new to the group, and live near the Beacons; any plans for a
    weekend camp there?

[Yes, I know what you're all thinking ...... "Near the Beacons".....
"Wales" ..... "new to the group". All very suspicious but, if my
investigations are conclusive, Rik/Richard had a conversation with the
departed one on 12th July in this very group, so I don't think he's
crept back under a pseudonym. Well, not *this* pseudonym.)

    Hi Rik

I'm keen to get to the Beacons some time this year. There have been a
couple of URW expeds there - but I've never walked there.

Either watch this space, or organise something yourself and see who
    turns up!

I've just come back from a long weekend in the Beacons camping with my
family. Only managed one shortish walk, but it was good to be back there.
Probably won't be able to make it again until late Sept or even Oct.

    Have fun,
    Paul

  4. Hello Rik,

What part near the Beacons do you live....? I am in Ebbw Vale

    regards

Dunno about that, but there are a few of us in the area: Paul
(aka The Departed One) and Bill in Swansea; me in the Rhondda,
someone else - actually a couple of someone elses I think - in
Cardiff, someone else whose son lives in Swansea... If not a
weekend there's every chance of a stroll...

Fran is right up to a point, I do live in "Swansea" - the City and
County of Swansea, but am so near the edge that I prefer to say I live
near Swansea. I'm definitely not a Townie".

I live in the Swansea Valley.

The Departed One lived in Swansea - I use the past tense as we have no
idea where he is now :-)

I reckon he is still in that shed at the back of his parents' garage,
keeping out of the heat and sorting out a splendiferous website,
shortly to be released on a new host. You have no idea how keeping up
with USENET distracts from the important things like rewriting web
    pages or tidying up.

Oh 'eck, now I've upset one of me friends. You can tell I don't
live in or around Swansea, can't you :-\

I've got friends I visit in Morriston, Pontardawe, Trebanos and
Glais. Oh, and Brynaman. It's all 'sort-of' Swansea, innit?
    OK, maybe not...

I thought it was understood that he was staying with the Queen?
Wasn't it you Bill, who mentioned the pleasure Her Majesty would
    get from his company?

So - where (and why) is he? Really, I mean?

In totally incomprehensible language? Yep, that'd be about
    right!

Paul appears to be the latest in a long line of enigmatic characters
who suddenly 'disappear' at the height of their fame, (Glen Miller,
Buddy Holly, Elvis and closer to home, Richy Edwards from Manic Street
Preachers), leading to various incredible conspiracy therories.
Please allow me to be the first:-

    1) I challenge anyone to say that they have ever seen the departed one
(TDO) and Lord Lucan in the same room together. Is it not significant
that TDO has never had a nanny?

    2) 'Paul Saunders' translated by Google to Swahili then to Outer
Mongolian and back to English gives a response "Mock me if you will,
Suckers coz I'll soon be history"

    3) As his favoured medium was photography, we should first look there
for hidden clues as to his intentions, and I think I've come up trumps
from a recent TR to Fan Brychieniog.
He posed in a rather fetching pair of shorts:

    http://www.wildwales.fsnet.co.uk/misc/mynydd_du/summit_portrait.jpg

Obviously he's gone to join other like minded fashion victims at the
    Munich Octoberfest.

I'm amazed that you lot couldn't work this out for yourselves!

I must have a look at google.de.rec.bierfest-mit-der-lederhosen to see
if I can track him down.

  15. I've solved the mystery for you - Paul is alive and well, having relocated
    to New York

He's shaved off his beard and donned a toupe, but I'm sure those of you who
knew him well wont be fooled!

Rather sold out on the photography thing, though.

Oh, I don't know, there's a landscape in the background of at
    least one of those photos!
