I haven't been on every Scottish hill but on a sunny day Sgurr na Banachdich
in the Black Cuillin comes very close. A very dull ascend is followed by the
grand finale when you reach the summit and see Loch Coruisk, the northern
Munros of the Black Cuillin and the red Cuillin in the east.

Aonach Beag - similar views as from The Ben but without the crowds

Binnein Mor (Mamores) - I couldn't get over how small and steep-sided the
summit was. Stayed on there for a good half hour.

from the fact I have yet to climb this (Corbett, Pair of Corbetts ,

As an aside, how did you generate those panoramas on your web site? They're
quite impressive!

PanaVue Image Assembler warps and stitches and colour matches the
individual shots into a single image. The early ones were taken on a
film SLR the latter ones are taken on a 2 Megapixel digicam rotated
vertically, mounted on a light tripod. I don't use a panoramic head as
the subject is usually far enough to not show parallax problems and
the scale of the pictures online hides a little mismatching.

The image is then displayed using a java applet from here

The words "view" and "Scottish hill" can often be associated by the
words "lack of".

By favourite perch is probably the end of the small ridge on the
less popular side of Stob Binnein. You get the best view of
the Stob summit, not many people, and lots of height.

Sron na Creise at the head of Glencoe is good too.

Many good views along the west coast. Difficult to pick one as the time
of day and year is often important to ensure the best sillouhette
of the islands.

I'm thinking of going to Scotland next year to do some hillwalking. I can't
decide whereabouts at the moment, so that's why I was asking which hills
have the best viewpoints. If I'm only there for a week then I need to get
the most out of my walking.

I imagine that Foinaven must be spectacular. Unfortunatly I've had to turn
back twice on that hill due to bad weather. I've also been up Ben Hope but
the summit was cloudy.

I remember that under snow. On the narrow ridge leading to the top there was
a cornice which swapped sides half way along.

Got the Summer Isles, on a good day the Western Isles beyond.
Stac Polly is nicely framed in the view by a couple of BMCs lesser peaks
with Suilven above them and Quinag in the distance.

yes, a very fine view. But the best view is from the W top and not the
high point. OTOH, from the high point is a great view of the S side of the
S Glen Sheil ridge. It is a pretty sharp summit, only about 10 ft wide,
but the ridge curves round to partly block the view to Knoydart.
There is a panorama I took of this view on the SMC Corbetts CD, so you can
check it out 8-)

Obviously it would depend on the weather, some hills may require repeat
ascents to get a view at all. I can think of plenty where I've not seen a
thing. But - as you've said we *had* to vote - the recent views from Ladhar
Bheinn were outstanding, can't beat a bit of coast and islands to add
something to the view. In the east the view from the Devils Point was
very good, due to the viewer being perched way up above the Lairig Ghru.
I've sat for over an hour on top of Beinn Eunaich, not a particularly
good hill and admired the views and enjoyed the silence.
