Leafing through rec.running, I read Ignoramus31337's message of 18 Oct 2004:

What is the low ambient temperature when shirtless running becomes unadvisable? I find that whenever I run in a shirt for, say, 1:20, I get problems like chafed nipples. So, for now, I run without a shirt. But the weather is getting colder.
Obviously, if it gets too cold to run comfortably without a shirt, I will try something else, but is it dangerous to run without a shirt in cold weather even if I feel warm enough? Can I become frostbitten without noticing?
For the chafed nipples I highly recommend 3M Transpore Surgical Tape http://tinyurl.com/2jp5h. I've been using it for years. It's strong enough to stay on for your longest runs, yet not so strong that you can't get it off without screaming. Most drug stores carry it. Much cheaper than any runner's lube that I've seen.

I second this sentiment - a roll of micropore tape is dirt cheap and lasts literally for years. The pain of removal is very minimal, yet it never falls off. No mess, nothing.

Wow! First time I've ever seen anyone mention using surgical tape, which of course this doctor has done for 13 years! Works like a charm, dirt cheap. -- Josh in Syracuse
