  1. Hey all,

I guess these questions are pretty common here. So, I have knee pain.
    (surprise, surprise!!)

This started a few months back. I was running once, and the outer
side of my left knee started hurting. I stopped running immediately.
I then didnt run for about a couple of months since I was on vacation
    and then moving.

Anyway, I tried to start running again. The pain is still there.
    Here are the symptoms:
It starts after about 7-8 minutes of running. It doesnt hurt
constantly, and it doesnt hurt when I hit the ground. However, when I
lift my leg and bend my knee in the stride, thats when it hurts. It
hurts right at the edge of the knee cap on the outer side of my left
knee. So, its not a consistent pain, but only hurts during the knee
bend. (It doesnt work when I walk afterwards).

After doing some research the culprit may be the Iliotibial band? I've
been stretching and also doing strength training for my legs.
But it doesnt seem to help.

Any ideas as to what may be the problem? Anything I should be doing or
    not doing?

    Thanks,
    Sumedh

The pain you describe seems similar to what I experience on occasion.
I have found that incorporating walking into the stretch/warmup seems to help.
I also give the area a little rub down with a light but rapid motion.
If it strikes during the run I stop and give it a rub down, eventually picking
up the leg and bending the knee several times while still rubbing. Sometimes
it works for the rest of the run, some times for just another mile and the next
rubdown. If it starts hurting again too sun I will scrap the run. Before I
tried the rubbing I would just stop and try to walk it off but when I resumed
running it would always come back immediately or within 100 feet

    Ben
