  3. Many thanks Michael Brodin, MD, for giving me, so long ago, Eudora Welty's "One
    Writer's Beginnings" and Mark Podwal, MD,'s "Freud's DaVinci.

    From Ms. Welty's book:

    "'It ends with not one but two morals, both engraved on rings: 'Do what you
    ought, come what may,' and 'If we would be great, we must first learn to be
    good.'"*

    *These quotes from a book belonging to her father, entitled "Sanford and
    Merton," by Thomas Day, ca. 1780s.
