I know, I know, not another pain question. After reading some of the posts and a quick trip to WebMD I think I have bursitis in my right hip. Minor pain during the day but the pain goes away during the run, but returns after. I looked up some stretches, but the hip is not the easiest place to stretch. Would taking some time off help? I only run about 15 miles a week as it is. I would really like to get back on my bike but I am not looking forward to that initial seat discomfort, if you know what I mean... But is that a viable solution to ease the hip pain or would that just make it worse? I have been running for about 9 months, mainly for weight loss (maintaining now) and general fitness. My general schedule is as follows:
Mon. 3 miles w/hills Tues. 2.25 miles w/hills Wed. Off Thurs. 2.25 miles w/hilles Fri. Off Sat. 5 miles flat (Thats my long run) Sun. Off
I had hip bursitis once, bad enough that it affected my stride.
I took 5 days off and took 800 mg per day of ibuprufen (on doc's orders).
That fixed it. I did a little biking during the days I didn't run.
It never revisited.

Your best bet is to see an orthopedic physical therapist to get a correct picture on what exactly is going on. A poor diagnosis leads to poor treatment.
A PT can not only help with problem-solving and treating it, but he/she can offer preventative education on how to avoid chronicity with the painful hip. Good luck.
