is that on the basis, that they've tried to make it harder for him
and he still wins. So now level the playing field - literally!
He'll still win.
Steve
That is if he shows up. Lance has got to be thinking about the Giro and the
Vuelta. If He shows up for the TdF, he'll have to win it. I'm not so sure
the TdF is on his program.

I fail to see how less mountains or less time trials makes it easier for
someone to win. More mountains and more time trials seem to make people
ride more conservatively. Fewer opportunities to gain time means if you
aren't ready on this day on this time, you're stuffed.

Start July 2nd on the island of Noirmoutier, first the Alpes then the
Pyrenees, three mountain top finishes, one time trial in St. Etienne on
the penultimate day, finish in Paris July 24th.

Flatter stages are harder for 1 team to control.
This is self-evident for anyone who understands drafting or do I need
to explain that too?
K. Gringioni.
The likeliness of someone winning the Tour is the same, no matter how many
mountains and time trials there are.
Every year, ONE person wins the Tour de France.
I'm not sure if you knew that.
Anyway, if the deciding stages are mostly mountain and time trial stages,
Armstrong does serve a much better chance than if the race were to be
decided by a crash splitting the peloton.

I thought this was just a troll, until I read it on velonews
One time trial? One 20km time trial?
What would make a lot more sense is to make the stage difficulties more
even, instead of a bunch of flat stages and a few hard mountain stages.
Make the mountain stages less difficult, while making the flatter stages
much longer, and making them as hilly as possible (when passing through
hilly areas, of course).
Then we might see more wide open racing.
But I guess they just want the race profile to get easier and easier. Pretty
soon, the race will be won by a bunch sprinter who gets enough bonus
seconds.

Lance will *not* do the Giro in 2005.
Discovery Channel has Popyvich and Savoldelli to lead them in Italy.
Required reading is the new CyclingNews.com Lance interview.
Offical Tour Route 2005 to be announced Thursday (tomorrow morning).

Obvious influence of Lance behind the scenes.
He wants to completely eliminate Lemond from the record books as the
fastest non-prologue ITT in the Tour. It will be a straight-line TT and
the direction will be selected to suit the wind direction on the day.

I think Lance had so much fun on the Pave at TdF this year, that he's
thinking Paris-Roubaix and/or Flanders. Hincapie will be super-domestique
again and Lance will ride off and leave him in the dusts to claim one of
these monuments.

Ahh, so it will be just like 2000

And it will start on the top of a hill
If nowone breaks the record there, we will all know for sure that Lemond was
on EPO

Paris-Roubaix has too much risk of injury for Armstrong. I've always
considered him a strong possible candidate for the Ronde van Vlaanderen, and
I never really understood why he did not ride there.

There three TTs:
Stage 1 = 19km ITT (no Prologue this year)
Stage 4 = 64km TTT
Stage 20 = 55km ITT - the penultimate stage
