Two questions really. Can anyone offer opinions on the stresses that a child trailer would place on a bike frame? I am considering a 13Kg trailer with a one-y-o and three-y-o payload. My main bike is a Alu framed trek 1200 (broadly a GBP600 alu road bike). Does anyone think that I should worry about placing too much load on the frame?
Second question is does anyone have any direct experience of the phillips shetland (as rebranded by argos at GBP80 url below)? I am considering this price range because the trailer will have to be stored outside (probably locked under a cover) and will not be heavily used. I am interested in theperformance of the rain cover and any general comments. I am aware that it will not compare favourably to a burley or chariot or similar but I am encouraged by argos' returns policy if it turns out to be an absolute crock.

Whilst I can't comment on this particular trailer I wouldn't think there would be a problem. I see it is an axle hitch which is the best.

It looks good value - almost too good. However make sure that you have a decent mudguard on the towing bike as all manner of muck can be thrown backwards onto the trailer. Its worth fitting a rear mudflap. Always keep the mesh down, even in the best of weather.

Probably not, I've transported a 35kg shredder in a similarly cheap trailer (Lidl 70 quid job from a couple of years ago) on a couple of occasions. Nothing broke.
Beware that they can alter handling, and in particular, I found that braking hard while heading down a hill the back wheel of teh bike can unload enough that the trailer trying to over-run will jack-knife the bike + trailer. It's a bit hairy when it happens, so best to brake gently in plenty of time.

I used to have a Cresswell U+2 that I hitched on to a Kirk Precision. If that combination can survive [1] without breaking, then anything can.

I've never had that happen with rear axle area mounting hitch, but happened a few times with my Columbus trailer that attaches on the seat post. -- Chris French, Leeds
I think that just like with cars you need to be slightly careful of load distribution in the trailer. AFAIK you should load it so there's some weight on the hitch.

Could you do a user report, I may want a trialer for next years hols so it would be useful to know what you think of it. We have tents and camping stuff which we normally put in the car with bikes on top and rear. Sniper8052
