By coincidence I spoke today to a former Ti Koga-Miyata owner, who at my LBS was admiring his new Seven, that he had equipped with King Ti headset, D-A 10 S, carbon Easton handlebar etc etc.
He told me he had a lugged Ti K-M frame before and also told me that this frame had too much flex. According to him it was a Ti frame with lugs.

I believe the Ti tubes on those bikes were glued together under the lugs. They were made before the technology of Ti welding became mature and inexpensive. GH

Titanium welding has been a mature and not very expensive tech for a long time. It's more likely that Miyata was simply using the same type of construction features employed on some of their other bikes when they produced the titanium frames as a way to preserve apparent feature continuity. I have a Miyata Elevation 1000 here, and its steel tubes are joined in the manner that is described. It's as stiff as I could ask for, and it was apparently ridden hard for quite a while by its previous owner.

I have an older alloy Miyata Quickcross bike. Made in Japan. Like a road bike with flat bars (now) and V brakes and braze ons. It is "Aluminum Pressurised Adhesive". There is a little info around on this. The seat stays are bolted at the top by the seat post bolt. They seem to have perfected this frame joining technique using really thin and light lugs. Maybe they continued this with the ti frame. There are advantages of no welding stresses and no heat treating required. There is not a sign of any crack in any of the the joints. My favorite ride.
