  1. I don't remember it being such a buggersome exercise last time. If I
did, I'd have left it to a professional.

Cut off grips - OK. Moved everything inboard - OK (bar some cursing
shifting thegrips themselves). Fitted bar ends - OK.

Can I get the bloody bar end 'bungs' in? Grr. However I'll persevere
(with the help of a stanley knife) - I don't fancy the idea of taking
a 1 cm core of my thigh if I crash.

Oil stuff, WD or GT; then a hammer.

I had the same problem as you recently. Nothing worked, not hammer, not
lubrication. The plug was too damn big. Had to eventually cut bits off with
a small wire cutter (had rubber thread).

Had another set of plugs with a pair of Zip grips, they did't fit either
(and they can't be cut down to fit)

I resorted to a swiss army knife to the same effect. Managed to slice
thumb at same time. Amazing how much blood there is in a thumb, you
    know.

As I was doing the job in my study rather than a more conventional
garage or bikeshed, I only had a limited set of tools to hand. The
mallet was in the garage and I couldn't summon up the sense of
workmanship required to trek out and get it. Hence my daughter's
comment when she came to get me for lunch; "Daddy, why are you hitting
    your bike with the dictionary?"

    It did, however, work.

The keyboard survived this one, but I think I just inhaled my milk!

I found this a really funny image
