  1. Hey Henry
Here's my reading list of what is right here, not still boxed on the subject.
This is what I could put my hands on in 5 minutes out of the piles and piles
of books, as we don't have the room to set up the library.
    1. A History of the Arab Peoples, Hourani, Belknap press of Harvard U. Press
    2. A History of Mediaeval Islam, J.J. Saunders, Routledge and Kegan Paul Ltd
    3. Arabia the Gulf & the West, J.B. Kelly, George Weidenfeld and Nicolson Ltd
    4. Muhammad Prophet and Statesman, Watt, Oxford University Press
    5. A Short History of the Jewish People, Scheindlin, Macmillan
    6. Not scholarly but, The Jews. Story of a People, Fast, Dell
There's a bunch of other stuff that I haven't dug back out.

I'd be interested in a copy of the Short Jewish history and the history of
the Arab peoples. I think a lot of our nation's plight is related to a lack
of understanding the histories of the Jews and Arabs...that and our
misguided approach to our relationships with Saudi Arabia for oil and Israel
out of Judeo-Christian values (which I think caused us to work with England
    to create Israel in 1945).

    I'm a novice

Add in the fact that both the Nazis and Soviets attempted to manipulate the
Arabs with varying degrees of success, and communal western guilt over the
holocaust, and the fact that everyone had dirty hands here in the west. Whether
it was, sending refugees back, ignoring the actions leading up to it, or guilt
over our own anti-semitism some decisions were made rashly that definitely made
    the problem worse.
I'm not sure that there is going to ever be a long term peaceful resolution.
That's going to take overcoming centuries of hatred and propaganda which is
still ongoing and being taught to children. Everyone wants restitution and a
land for the Palestinians, but there is no talk of restituation for all the
Jews driven out of Arab lands who had everything confiscated.

There is also no talk of the Arab states, specifically Jordan and Syria,
giving up land for a Palestinian Homeland.

IMO the Palestinians are getting screwed by both sides, but until they
recognize Israel's right to exist and start making a serious attempt to control
the attacks, not paying rewards to the families of suicide bombers then there
    can be no serious negotiations.

In my experience bigots too seldom feel guilty. You remember Freud's
distinction between guilt and shame, right? ;-)
Western involvement in the creation of a Jewish state can easily be
seen to be motivated (in part, at least) as a means to dissuade the
remnants of European jewry from emmigration to just those western countries.
The fact that Jews had been settling those lands for decades just made
it easier to claim a National Homeland.
I (sadly) agree that there is no obvious solution esp. with regard to
the holy sites. I'm not optimistic that international administration
would be accepted by the radicals on either side--but I've been wrong
    before.

Well, that's some very insightful history there.

I have a related question for the dental twins: do you guys double up on
    the hygienist?

    Thanks,
