    That's always a possibility.

I hear the same thing about not going clipless, or not wearing
    biking shorts, or ....

Yes, those silly shorts. He, he, he... I wear "regular shorts" and a
t-shirt of my choosing. No "cycling" clothes. Most of the purists
    - who apparently think they are potential Armstrong challengers and
way too important to deal with an amateur like me - will even wave.

Ya know, I only have one pair of cycling shorts, and one pair of cycling
undershorts. So sometimes I ride with them, sometimes they're both in
the wash and I wear regular shorts.

I can hardly tell the difference.

I can't remember the last time I rode without cycling shorts. I bought a
pair for my granddaughter earlier this year and she now wonders how she ever
    rode without them.

A lot might have to do with the type of bike, saddle, length of ride, etc.
I ride a road bike and usually ride 20+ rides when I go out. I might
consider not wearing the cycling shorts if I was only running an errand to
the store or post office (6 miles). But for these trips I usually wear my
baggy shorts since I don't like traipsing through the grocery in my spandex
    🙂

This brings up a question. I find the baggy shorts I own seem to have less
padding than the regular spandex type. Is this a common thing?

Well, personally I'm not real comfortable in tight clothes. I'd rather
wear the baggy shorts. Don't get me wrong, the women all tell me I'm,
cute in them, I just don't like them :-) I wear loose t-hirts too. I
suppose if I was in time trials I'd care about resistance but when I'm
out getting exercise or heading some place for fun, it's not an issue.

Regardless though, I think the bikers in spandex around here
definitely have an attitude. No waving to guys in regular clothes.
    It's like they're all BMW drivers :-)

I do a weekly "Bike for the Health of It" program with the local parks. We
have riders of all ages, sizes, experience, etc. They come dressed in all
types of clothing and I haven't noticed this to be a problem when it comes
to interacting with each other. I did notice as the season progressed that
many riders switched to wearing padded shorts that had been wearing regular
clothing. In my observation those who did a lot of riding were more likely
to wear the cycling shorts than those who only did the once a week ride.

I think it's an age thing.

When I was 20-something, I raced traffic in Honolulu for hundreds and hundreds
of miles per week wearing flip-flops, shorts, and a tee-shirt - and enjoyed
virtually every track ever recorded by The Doors.

Now I can still ride in regular shorts - but I get sore in a couple places if
the ride is much over an hour and I can't stand some of The Door's songs.

My theory: one's nervous system degenerates along with the rest of the bod and
it just can't handle that stuff any more - both the physical irritation of
riding and the nervous irritation of certain kinds of music.

Now yer gonna tell me you're 67 years old, right? -)

And I think The Door's 'The Promise' is the worst song ever written.

I once rode straight off the road because of wearing regular shorts on a bike.

Caught one of the nuggets betwixt saddle and thigh going out of the saddle.

The Doors never recorded a song called "The Promise". Do you mean the
song "Touch Me"? I would have to say, that the worst song that Jim
Morrison ever wrote, is still far superior to a lot of the commercial
    [censored] that is popular today.

No. Nothing is worse than that 'Touch Me' song.
    Absolutely nothing.

Not quite. But I'm in my 40's, and my oldest son is 23.

I think it has more to do with how well my saddle suits my personal

Speaking of bad tunes, I haven't seen that Quizno's commercial
with the singing puppets for a long time. Maybe someone
stepped on 'em. One can only hope.

I always cite that one as an example of the *actual* 70s, vs. the imaginary,

That commercial is THE biggest reason I won't eat at Quizno's. Any
