1. Hi, this is my first post and I only started cycling a couple of weeks ago, so go easy on me - I don't really know much about it at all.

I want to fit new (SPD) pedals to my hybrid bike. I have the new pedals and I got myself a 15mm spanner but the existing ones seem to be on so tight that I can't get them off! Maybe I'm doing something wrong - are they threaded in the normal way (clockwise tightens?, anti-clock to remove)

thanks!
Mark

2. The Right pedal is CW tighten CCW remove. 🙂

The Left pedal is CCW tighten CW remove, :o
it should have an "L" on it somewhere near the thread, or something to indicate it is different.

And yes some shops do really go over the top with the long spanner...

aha - so it was even more complicated than I thought.
thank you - I'll try again in the morning.

I find it works best if you can hold the other pedal or else get someone to hold it for you while attempting to take off a pedal that was over tightened. Even get them to push in the opposite direction.

Some spray lube might help as well. Pedals do not need to be over tightened, unless you are pedalling the wrong way a lot they aren't falling off.
