Noisy Campy

I had the same experience last spring when I went Italian and my local shop said that it is a Campy thing get used to it. They are a good shop so I don't doubt that they correct. I do however look forward to other posts about anything to quiet things down back there. I'm definitely Campy all the way now, do you plan on going back?

What one considers "noise", is music to another!

I've noticed the noise on my Campy equiped bike as well as those of people I've ridden with. I guess you could wrap the outside of the hub body with some kind of vibration damping material. I just consider it motivation not to coast so much. 🙂

Yes it is a typical Campy thing, and of course it is harmless. As another poster mentioned, it is music to some of us.

That's interesting, I've observed the opposite. My Campy Zondas are fairly quiet.

Unlike my old Rolfs with the DT hub, which sound like a machine gun when coasting.

My campags make a noise, but only notice it when out in the country and the MP3 stops!
Otherwise no problems with noise

No - I'm a Campy boy now. Love the feel.

I've got a set of 1993 Campy Record hubs. My LBS Campy guru told me to pull the cassette body off (it's easy) and squirt some Phil Wood Tenacious lube on the pawls. (DO NOT USE GREASE) Worked great. Really silenced the hub noise. I do that when I repack the bearings annually, which is every 4,000 miles. Keeps that noise level down all season.

Oh yeah, be careful when you pull that body off. Those pawls have very small springs in there. You don't want to lose them. When reassembling, you'll need to turn the cassette body to get it to fall in place.
