SRAM powerlink

Go the whole hog and get a SRAM chain, they are better than Shimano IMHO. I
got my last one from Parkers, or it may have been Deeside, but any LBS
should be able to suppy such basic components.

Rather than buy a powerlink individually why not but a SRAM 8sp
chain, use the powerlink from that on your current chain and when that
wears out then fit the SRAM chain and keep using the same powerlink.
SRAM 8pd chain will cost you a tenner.

And yes, powerlinks will work OK on shimano chains.

They're often supplied with new SRAM chains, but not always.

Parker International have them at just 50p each but p&p is £2.50. You
could order a new SRAM chain at the same time (supplied without
Powerlinks), however it would make sense to carry on with the existing
chain if *either* it's barely used or so used that you intend to carry on
until it and all the sprockets & rings are totally worn out.

PC41, PC48, PC58 are 8-speed chains.

Wiggle's Powerlink price is 99p with free post. They call it a
"connecting pin" but it's really two plates with built-in pins.

I know someone who uses an 8sp Powerlink with a Shimano 8sp IG chain with
no problems. I also use a 9sp one with a Campag 9sp chain.

Just in case anyone thinks that means some models don't ever come with
Powerlinks, that' snot so. SRAM package the same models in different
ways: boxed, bagged, with/without Powerlinks, etc. Some dealers simply
don't have any SRAM chains with Powerlinks included.

so you would need to buy two of them for a complete powerlink. A better bet
is Settle Cycles who sell the complete link for £1.00 inc postage.

At my LBS before last (Mike's Bikes, Crawley (1)), I asked if they had
any power links. Mike, being somewhat fixed in his ways, dismissed
them as new fangled nonsense. His wife, the loveley Marina, pointed
out they had a huge bag full, supplied with the last shipment of
chains they'd bought. I got half a dozen for free.
