  1. Has anyone ever purchased from Thor USA? Good service? He carries
Sapim spokes, which I am thinking of respoking my wheels with. Also
there was a thread a while back about the need to use washers with DT
spokes with hubs other than Hugi. Still true?

    Thanks,
    Leland

Thor USA has good service and a friendly Scandinavian woman who
answers the phone and takes your order (I think it is Thor's mom).

I have made multiple orders, received good service, at great prices.

    Go for it.

  4. Isn't that Karl? He's very, very knowledgeable about Edco and Hugi
    products!

I have bought Sapim spokes several times from Thor USA. They are good
spokes, and the price there is more than reasonable. Sapim Laser
14/17ga. spokes are especially good value compared to DT Revolutions.

There is no reason I can think of to use washers on most hub/spoke
    combinations.

The only time I use washers is when I lace thin spokes to hubs with
large holes, or on the inboard spokes when I lace crossed spokes all
    elbows-out.

Several orders, excellent service, no complaints.

  7. ordered a new kinetix comp rear wheel from thorusa last year and have replaced almost half the spokes by now, they keep breaking off! Just glad I kept the old wheel as I couldn't find any new right sized spokes.

  8. Terrible customer service. Ordered dahon 20" fenders and received package marked 20" wide. When I emailed Thor he replied back that the wide didn't exist. I researched it and found the different narrow and wide versions. I took a digital pic to show him I had received the wide fenders..

    his reply:

there is Dahon packaging which keeps room for alternatives WHICH DO NOT EXIST
    Thanks Thor

I guess what I received from him doesn't exist.

I won't be doing business with him again.

  9. Hello Shane ...

just found your post in regards of the fenders. Ok let me try : Dahon ( and Tern) buy their fenders from SKS in Germany, they are custom made for them in the German factory. Dahon only orders P 55 ( which are about 50 mm wide ). At no time whatsover, they have ordered anything else, even if the header card shows two different width. They might at one time ( when they printed the header cards) thought about a different width, however that never happened. ThorUSA his however offering a custom fender set which comes in wide ( 50 mm) or also in narrow ( 40 mm ) made by SKS in Germany.
    Thanks Thor

The Comp wheels come with taiwanese spokes, we do however carry several different models of Sapim spokes in that short length. Like with any spokes they need to be kept trued and tight otherwise even the Sapim spokes will break. I suggest with every new bike or wheel, to ride a couple hundred miles and than bring the bike or wheels to a reputable bike shop for re truing, they will last a very long time after that.

    Thanks Thor

  10. I ordered a Tern Link Uno a few months ago from Thorusa. When I received the bicycle (I live in TX, so they had to ship it to me), one of the tires had a flat, so Thorusa had to send a replacement. A few weeks later, I received an email telling me that the bike had been recalled. I was given the option to upgrade to the Verge for a fee, so I opted for the upgrade.

I corresponded with Thorusa through email for the replacement. I specifically asked him to inspect the bicycle to make sure there would be no flats. He assured me that he would inspect it, and that there would be no flats. When I received the bicycle, the back tire was flat. When I inspected the tube, there was a large hole in the tube, and this had to have been there for a long time as there was a large crease where the hole was.

So, Thorusa lied to me when he said that he would inspect the bicycle. There is no way that the tire could have gotten a flat in the shipping process. It was a back tire too, so this added to the work in order to change out the tire tube. They did send replacement tubes, but the work to get this done was worth more than the tube. They took the easy way out ... and lied in the process.
