Fuji Tourer

A few months ago i started a thread here regarding the fuji touring bike
that was released here earlier this year.
Some of you may recall that i was trying to choose between the Fuji Touring
, Trek 520 and Mongoose Randonneur.

I chose the Fuji and had taken delivery of it 2 weeks ago from Cheeky Monkey
Cycles.

Wow, what a bike!! It is everything i wanted in a bike and it goes well
although at the moment i feel it is a bit too high geared for me having come
off a MTB as it just doesn't have the low granny that my other bike has but
i guess in time i'll either get used to it or i might get smaller cranks
later on.

Price-wise it fell roughly about the middle between the trek and mongoose at
$1,600 + an extra $100 for a computer, fenders and bidons & bottles so I'm
very happy with the deal i got.

I don't know if i will ever do any fully loaded touring or not but this bike
will outlast me I'm sure.

It's good to be on a road bike again, all i have to do now is get this poor
old 45 yr old body into shape to get the best out of it hehe!!

So, if anyone is looking into a good all round tourer/commuter bike, check
out the fuji, for what it is, i think it's pretty good value.

Thanks Dutchie, That article was interesting reading, haven't come accross
it before.

Got my first puncture on the front tire today...Glass fragment.
As they say "[censored] happens"!!

No it doesn't, get some kevlar wound tyres. They're a bit heavy
but handle that sort of thing easily. Did 1300km tour on them
without a puncture. (The P*nct*ure F*iry 'll have me for sure now)

No doubt I've repeated it ad-nauseum here before, but my tyre of
choice is IRC Metro Cross Duro, available in 700Cx35(38?) and similiar 26"
sizes - perfect for on-road touring (might be a bit slick for dirt). Pump
these suckers to 90PSI (5bar?) and you'll just glide along the road.
Got the 26"x2"s on the tandem, they're *sweet*.

If you're heading out western NSW with those cat-head thorns, you'll
want something else as well - slime, liners, thorn 'proof' tubes.
(and stay off the verges).

Sounds good KT, I'll keep those in mind, in fact, if I have a puncture like
I did the other day, the change might happen quicker.It was a small peice of
glass that got me and I didn't think it was that big to penetrate the tire
let alone the tube as well, so yeah, I can see your point.
There are a few things I need to get first but better tires are on the top 5
of my list.

I'll have a look at the ones you recommend and if i get a puncture in the
first month i'll come back and haunt ya!! haha

Are those thorn proof tubes slow in normal use or there's no noticable
difference, and Slime, I take it that it's stuff you put inside your tube
to block-up punctured tubes, I was told if the bike is not used regularly
for a while that it goes hard and stops flowing inside, I'm only going on
heresay here.
