Which fork?

I have a suspicion it'll be a matter of what you can find around the place, rather than what companies have on offer for you.

Perhaps try looking about eBay for used parts, or the websites of shock companies to see what they still make in a 1" steerer?

I was thinking that maybe i might have to get a fork and then replace the crown. I've checked most major company's websites and have come up with nil. i've seen some older forks (1" still being very rare) on ebay but i want something that is newer with features such as lockout and such. (which i don't know if you can even swap crowns on such forks). I was hoping that some obscure company may have somehting but it turns out that i might be out of luck. thanks for the help.

Another thing to consider when buying replacement forks is that the steerer size isn't the only thing your frame needs in order for the bike to function nicely. Ride height is a major concern as well. I recently bought a used rock shox to replace my old manitou no-longer-damping fork.😄 The rock shox fork has about 4 inches of nice travel, but the frame was designed for a shick with only 2 inches of travel. :eek: The addition of a couple of inches of travel seemed like a good idea until I installed the new fork. The fork makes my gary fisher handle awkwardly and I can't climb much of anything steeper than my driveway without pulling the front tire off the ground.:eek: My suggestion would be to try to find a fork that is comperable to the origional one the bike came with and you'll have a lot sweeter ride because of it. Just remember that if you are going from a 80mm travel fork to a 120mm fork you are inevitably going to be changing the H/T (head tube) angle so be careful what you wish for!

good luck, and check all the shops in your area (by phone preferably) they just might have something lying around that never got sold 4 years ago. Or if they are great guys, they might just know someone who recently upgraded and would be willing to sell you parts of thier old junker. It never hurts to ask! (that's how I got a used rock shox judy C for $50.oo!)

I just wanted to say thanks for the help. got some really good suggestions that made me rethink what i really wanted. i think i'm going to go with a light travel fork and put the extra money into some new wheels (thinking of getting a santa cruz) that will let me take the bigger hits that i want. i think i might make my jamis into a retro but who knows. anyways, thanks alot and if it looks impossible, do it!😄
