I would like to establish next year's race plans, but I am having trouble finding a single point of reference anywhere. There seem to be hundreds of unjoined, individual web sites, and sites like active.com and signmeupsports.com are not showing 2005 races yet. This year I missed a few good races because I only found out about them way too late to partiscipate.

We look at the website that shows the races in the area where we intend to race, like www.ncnca.org, but most won't have their 2005 schedules ready yet. Best to look at 2004's schedule and expect that most races will have pretty much the same dates as last year.

It's a drag. A couple years ago I was stunned by some link of lancearmstrong.com (it doesn't seem to be on his site anymore) a very comprehensive list of rides, races and events and would love to know if such a site still existed. It even included the timetrials which are run up the coast at regular intervals.

This time of year I'm enjoying a few beers every few days and doing the local 'cross races for fun (nothing too serious). As for next year, that'll happen next year. I've got loads of time to worry about that.
But, if you really want to plan that far out, just plan on most races occuring on the same weekend as in 2004. While it doesn't always work out that way, it usually does. You can make minor changes as more details emerge.

If you live in NorCal it is easy to find out, and then plan from a single source: (road races from January through September)

Yep, I think O' Grady definitely has the proper training and mental prep laid out for this time of year for just about everybody. Gonna pimp here too: Hit the ACF and get a T-Shirt. http://www.bikegeek.org/ Bill C Bill C

You might try the Pro Tour. Licenses are expected to go on sale very soon. Of course, that is over in Europe.
If you want to race in the US you might start off by finding out what district you are in and then you can see if there is a directory on the web for the races in that district or at least find out who the major promoters are in your area (assuming you have any, and you say there are races in you area). You might be able to post a follow up and say where you live so that those in your area can "hook you up" with some resources.
The other thing you can do is check out the races in your area that have already passed and ask them about next year's race as well as any other races they might do. Also ask who the promoters are. You have to network a bit at first. Some districts have one or more promoters that run races and or series. They also might be working with local cycling clubs that put on a race or 2 per year as well. Obviously it is too late for this year (though there might still be some events, I know of at least one more in California) but since the majority of races are run each year you can ask about next year's event from your list of events you missed this year. At the very least they will tell you enough about their plans for next year that you can plan to follow up with them and still have enough time to plan ahead when it rolls around in '05. They also might refer you to some directories of races as well
But, if you really want to plan that far out, just plan on most races occuring on the same weekend as in 2004. While it doesn't always work out that way, it usually does.
True enough, but not always... so now's as good a time as any to point out (for those in California) that the Good ol' Days RR and Solvang Crit will be on May 21st and 22nd of 2005. (The RR has been at the beginning of the year historically.) Someone should come out and knock off the defending P12 champ in the RR.
All the races in Oregon, as well as links to the Washington, Montana, Idaho and maybe BC schedule will be at www.obra.org. Expect the 2005 dates by early November.
