I tried those once. Just as bo11ocks as ordinary blocks on steel, and in
fact become worse than ordinary blocks after a while.

I tried them and they were about twice as good as rubber - but twice as
good as 10% is still only 20% as good as alloy rims ;-)

When I were a kid.. the trick is to ride up a few kerbs with under inflated
tyres. this will put some dents in the rims that will then catch on the
brake blocks, allowing an interference fit to develop, rather than friction.
Care must be taken to ensure that bum stays below head and behind bars.

They work better if slightly damp.
