Problem with Rear Derailleur (Shimano 105)

I noticed a similar problem with my 105 derailleur after only about 1500km and found that one of the jockey wheel bearings had become completely dry and was rusting. The problem was solved by about 0.1c worth of grease. My mountain bike's rear derailleur, after about 10,000km of much wetter and rougher use, developed the same problem. It had "sealed" jockey wheel bearings. I wonder why the 105 derailleur doesn't come similarly equipped?
If you haven't taken a derailleur cage apart before, be aware that on some (?old/current?) models the upper and lower wheels are not interchangeable, or so my LBS told me years ago. I don't know whether this is the case for 105, but I made sure I kept the parts separate.
