Hey all,
I've had this old bicycle someone gave me about 12 years ago in my garage
and finally decided to take it out and look at it again.
It's a girls Hawthone which is red and seems to have been repainted, because
the red is VERY uneven in places. I don't usually restore old bikes, but I
want to get this one working and nice.. I know what I'm doing interms of
being able to do stuff 🙂 I'm sort of wondering if the red IS original
though and maybe really faded? maybe someone could help me with that.. i can
post pictures..
Anyways, I'm in the process of disassembling it and at the very least,
cleaning everything lubing and adjusting everything and then reassembling
everything. (and maybe replacing the seat with something, since the covering
(if ther was one) seems to have been cut off and it's just a metal pan now).
I may also attempt to rebuild or replace the light at the top of the front
fender..
I don't know how to get the chain off though! If you've ever seen one
before, it's a weird chain where two pins are very close and then a big gap,
and the chainrings just have a large tooth and then a very large gap to
match. There seems to be a Master link on the chain, but I have no idea how
to break it!!
I also can't use my chain tools because the teeth that hold the chain steady
wont' fit between the small gap.
Any help?
